Ingredients:
- 6 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix), peeled, cored, and sliced (about 5 cups / 750g)
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice (30ml)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (5ml)
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg (2.5ml)
- ¼ teaspoon ground ginger (1.25ml)
- ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted (113g)
- 1 cup packed light brown sugar (200g)
- ½ cup all-purpose flour (60g)
- ½ teaspoon baking powder (2.5ml)
- ¼ teaspoon salt (1.25ml)
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (5ml)
Instructions:
- Peel, core, and slice the apples. Toss with lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger.
- Lightly grease the baking dish.
- Spread the apple mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the egg and vanilla until well combined.
- Pour the topping evenly over the apples.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender. A knife inserted into the apples should meet little resistance.
- Let cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.
