Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (450g) fresh asparagus, thick spears preferred, ends trimmed
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) fresh lemon juice
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1.5ml) salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon (0.75ml) black pepper
  • Optional: Red pepper flakes (pinch) for a touch of heat

Instructions:

  1. Wash and thoroughly dry the asparagus. Snap off the tough ends.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using).
  3. Place the asparagus spears on a baking sheet. Drizzle the marinade evenly over the asparagus, ensuring all spears are coated. Toss gently to combine.
  4. Preheat your BBQ to medium heat (around 350-400°F or 175-200°C). Lightly oil the grill grates to prevent sticking.
  5. Arrange the asparagus spears perpendicular to the grill grates.
  6. Grill for 4-6 minutes per side, or until the asparagus is tender-crisp and slightly charred.
  7. Remove the grilled asparagus from the grill and serve immediately.
