Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper to taste
- Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving
Instructions:
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add crushed tomatoes and tomato paste to the skillet.
- Stir in oregano and red pepper flakes (if using).
- Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- Lower the heat and stir in the heavy cream.
- Allow the sauce to heat through while stirring, simmering for about 5 minutes until creamy.
- Fold in the chopped fresh basil just before serving.
- Adjust seasoning if necessary.
- Toss the sauce with cooked pasta or serve it over your favorite noodles.
- Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese and extra basil, if desired.
