Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving

Instructions:

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Add crushed tomatoes and tomato paste to the skillet.
  5. Stir in oregano and red pepper flakes (if using).
  6. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  7. Lower the heat and stir in the heavy cream.
  8. Allow the sauce to heat through while stirring, simmering for about 5 minutes until creamy.
  9. Fold in the chopped fresh basil just before serving.
  10. Adjust seasoning if necessary.
  11. Toss the sauce with cooked pasta or serve it over your favorite noodles.
  12. Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese and extra basil, if desired.
