Ingredients:

  • 1 large head of broccoli (approx. 1.5 lbs / 680g), cut into florets
  • 1/2 cup water (120 ml)
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon olive oil (15 ml)
  • Optional: 1/4 teaspoon salt (1.5g)
  • Optional: 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (0.5g)
  • Optional: Lemon wedges, for serving

Instructions:

  1. Wash the broccoli thoroughly and cut into evenly sized florets.
  2. Pour the water into the pot and bring to a boil over high heat.
  3. Place the steamer basket with the broccoli florets into the pot, ensuring the broccoli is above the water line.
  4. Cover the pot with the lid and reduce the heat to medium. Steam for 5-7 minutes, or until the broccoli is bright green and tender-crisp. Start checking for doneness at 5 minutes by piercing a floret with a fork. It should be easily pierced, but still have a slight bite.
  5. Remove the steamer basket from the pot and transfer the broccoli to a serving bowl. Drizzle with olive oil (if using) and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Serve immediately, optionally with lemon wedges.
