Ingredients:
- 1 large head of broccoli (approx. 1.5 lbs / 680g), cut into florets
- 1/2 cup water (120 ml)
- Optional: 1 tablespoon olive oil (15 ml)
- Optional: 1/4 teaspoon salt (1.5g)
- Optional: 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (0.5g)
- Optional: Lemon wedges, for serving
Instructions:
- Wash the broccoli thoroughly and cut into evenly sized florets.
- Pour the water into the pot and bring to a boil over high heat.
- Place the steamer basket with the broccoli florets into the pot, ensuring the broccoli is above the water line.
- Cover the pot with the lid and reduce the heat to medium. Steam for 5-7 minutes, or until the broccoli is bright green and tender-crisp. Start checking for doneness at 5 minutes by piercing a floret with a fork. It should be easily pierced, but still have a slight bite.
- Remove the steamer basket from the pot and transfer the broccoli to a serving bowl. Drizzle with olive oil (if using) and season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve immediately, optionally with lemon wedges.
