Ingredients:

  • 6 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Gala), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 box (15.25 oz/432g) yellow cake mix
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup Caramel bits or caramel squares, chopped

Instructions:

  1. Peel, core, and slice the apples. Toss with lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar in a mixing bowl.
  2. Spread the apple mixture evenly in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  3. Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the apple layer.
  4. Pour the melted butter evenly over the cake mix. Drizzle the heavy cream evenly over the cake mix.
  5. Sprinkle the caramel pieces or chopped caramel squares over the cake mix and butter mixture.
  6. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 45-50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  7. Let the cake cool slightly before serving (about 15 minutes).
