Ingredients:
- 6 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Gala), peeled, cored, and sliced
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 box (15.25 oz/432g) yellow cake mix
- ¾ cup unsalted butter, melted
- ½ cup heavy cream
- ½ cup Caramel bits or caramel squares, chopped
Instructions:
- Peel, core, and slice the apples. Toss with lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar in a mixing bowl.
- Spread the apple mixture evenly in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking pan.
- Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the apple layer.
- Pour the melted butter evenly over the cake mix. Drizzle the heavy cream evenly over the cake mix.
- Sprinkle the caramel pieces or chopped caramel squares over the cake mix and butter mixture.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 45-50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Let the cake cool slightly before serving (about 15 minutes).
