Ingredients:

  • 1 (21 ounce/595g) can cherry pie filling
  • 1 (15.25 ounce/432g) package chocolate cake mix (e.g., Devil's Food or Milk Chocolate)
  • ¾ cup (1 ½ sticks/170g) unsalted butter, melted
  • ½ cup (85g) chocolate chunks or chips
  • Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, for serving (optional)
  • Additional chocolate shavings, for serving (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. Spread the cherry pie filling evenly over the bottom of the prepared pan.
  3. Evenly distribute the dry chocolate cake mix over the cherry pie filling. Don't stir!
  4. Pour the melted butter evenly over the dry cake mix, trying to cover as much surface area as possible.
  5. Sprinkle the chocolate chunks or chips over the butter-soaked cake mix.
  6. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean (or with a few moist crumbs).
  7. Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, if desired.
