Ingredients:
- 1 (21 ounce/595g) can cherry pie filling
- 1 (15.25 ounce/432g) package chocolate cake mix (e.g., Devil's Food or Milk Chocolate)
- ¾ cup (1 ½ sticks/170g) unsalted butter, melted
- ½ cup (85g) chocolate chunks or chips
- Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, for serving (optional)
- Additional chocolate shavings, for serving (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
- Spread the cherry pie filling evenly over the bottom of the prepared pan.
- Evenly distribute the dry chocolate cake mix over the cherry pie filling. Don't stir!
- Pour the melted butter evenly over the dry cake mix, trying to cover as much surface area as possible.
- Sprinkle the chocolate chunks or chips over the butter-soaked cake mix.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean (or with a few moist crumbs).
- Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, if desired.
