Ingredients:
- 40-45 saltine crackers (about 1 sleeve, approx. 170g)
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter (227g)
- 1 cup granulated sugar (200g)
- 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips (340g)
- ¼ cup chopped pecans, walnuts, or sprinkles (optional, approx. 30g)
Instructions:
- Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
- Place the crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, close together.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sugar and stir constantly until the sugar dissolves and the mixture comes to a boil.
- Continue boiling, stirring constantly, until the mixture turns a light amber color (about 3-5 minutes). Monitor closely, as it can burn easily.
- Immediately pour the toffee mixture evenly over the crackers.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes, or until the toffee is bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the hot toffee.
- Let the chocolate sit for a minute or two to soften, then spread it evenly over the toffee using a spatula.
- Sprinkle with chopped nuts or sprinkles, if desired.
- Refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or until the chocolate is firm.
