Ingredients:
- 40-45 Saltine crackers
- 1 cup (2 sticks or 226g) unsalted butter
- 1 cup (200g) packed light brown sugar
- 12 ounces (340g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Your favourite sprinkles or chopped nuts
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
- Place saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and brown sugar together, stirring constantly. Once melted, bring to a boil and cook for 3 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Immediately pour the caramel mixture evenly over the crackers, spreading with a spatula if needed.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes, or until the caramel is bubbly and golden brown. Watch carefully to prevent burning!
- Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over the hot caramel. Let sit for 1-2 minutes to soften.
- Spread the melted chocolate evenly over the caramel layer using an offset spatula or the back of a spoon.
- Sprinkle with desired toppings (sprinkles, chopped nuts) while the chocolate is still wet.
- Let cool completely at room temperature or in the refrigerator to harden. Once firm, break into pieces. Enjoy your Christmas Crack!
