Ingredients:

  • 40-45 Saltine crackers
  • 1 cup (2 sticks or 226g) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup (200g) packed light brown sugar
  • 12 ounces (340g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Your favourite sprinkles or chopped nuts

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Place saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and brown sugar together, stirring constantly. Once melted, bring to a boil and cook for 3 minutes, stirring constantly.
  4. Immediately pour the caramel mixture evenly over the crackers, spreading with a spatula if needed.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes, or until the caramel is bubbly and golden brown. Watch carefully to prevent burning!
  6. Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over the hot caramel. Let sit for 1-2 minutes to soften.
  7. Spread the melted chocolate evenly over the caramel layer using an offset spatula or the back of a spoon.
  8. Sprinkle with desired toppings (sprinkles, chopped nuts) while the chocolate is still wet.
  9. Let cool completely at room temperature or in the refrigerator to harden. Once firm, break into pieces. Enjoy your Christmas Crack!
