Ingredients:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar (200 g)
  • 1 cup water (240 ml)
  • 2 teaspoons Angostura bitters (10 ml)
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon orange zest for added flavour

Instructions:

  1. In a medium saucepan, mix together the sugar, water, and Angostura bitters.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves completely—approx. 5-7 minutes.
  3. If desired, stir in orange zest for an extra layer of flavour.
  4. Remove the saucepan from heat and allow the mixture to cool to room temperature.
  5. If using zest, strain the syrup through a fine mesh strainer into an airtight container.
  6. Seal the container and refrigerate the syrup. It will keep for up to one month.
