Ingredients:
- 1 cup granulated sugar (200 g)
- 1 cup water (240 ml)
- 2 teaspoons Angostura bitters (10 ml)
- Optional: 1 teaspoon orange zest for added flavour
Instructions:
- In a medium saucepan, mix together the sugar, water, and Angostura bitters.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves completely—approx. 5-7 minutes.
- If desired, stir in orange zest for an extra layer of flavour.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and allow the mixture to cool to room temperature.
- If using zest, strain the syrup through a fine mesh strainer into an airtight container.
- Seal the container and refrigerate the syrup. It will keep for up to one month.
