Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (480 ml) whole milk
  • ¾ cup (150 g) granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup (60 g) unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) pure vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the whole milk and granulated sugar.
  2. Heat over medium heat, stirring continuously until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Once the sugar is dissolved, add the unsalted butter and continue to stir until fully melted.
  4. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and reduce heat to low.
  5. Allow it to simmer for approximately 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking, until it thickens and reduces in volume (about 1 cup).
  6. If using vanilla extract, stir it in once your mixture has thickened.
  7. Remove from heat, let it cool slightly, and then transfer it to a heatproof container.
  8. Allow it to cool completely before sealing and storing in the fridge.
