Ingredients:

  • 1 (14.3 oz) package Oreo cookies (406g)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened (227g)
  • 12 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips (340g)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable shortening (15ml) - Optional
  • Valentine's Day sprinkles, assorted

Instructions:

  1. Crush the Oreos: Using a food processor or ziplock bag and rolling pin, crush the Oreo cookies into fine crumbs.
  2. Combine Oreo Crumbs and Cream Cheese: In a large bowl, combine the crushed Oreo crumbs and softened cream cheese. Mix until well combined and a dough forms.
  3. Chill the Dough: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to make it easier to handle.
  4. Shape the Truffles: Roll the chilled dough into 1-inch balls. Then, gently press each ball into a heart shape.
  5. Prepare the Baking Sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  6. Melt the Chocolate: In a double boiler or microwave, melt the chocolate chips with the shortening (if using) until smooth. Stir frequently to prevent burning.
  7. Dip the Truffles: Dip each heart-shaped truffle into the melted chocolate, ensuring it is fully coated. Use a fork or dipping tools to remove the truffle, allowing excess chocolate to drip off.
  8. Decorate with Sprinkles: Immediately sprinkle the chocolate-covered truffles with Valentine's Day sprinkles before the chocolate sets.
  9. Set the Chocolate: Place the decorated truffles on the prepared baking sheet and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes to allow the chocolate to set completely.
  10. Serve and Enjoy: Once the chocolate is set, remove the truffles from the refrigerator and serve.
