Ingredients:
- 1 lb extra-firm tofu
- 2 tbsp water
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 tbsp toasted sesame oil
Instructions:
- Wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel or paper towels and place a heavy object, such as a cast iron skillet, on top for 15–30 minutes to remove excess water.
- Use your hands to break the pressed tofu into irregular, bite-sized chunks to increase surface area for the marinade.
- In a medium bowl or jar, whisk together the soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, maple syrup, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper.
- Stir in the toasted sesame oil until well-distributed.
- Place the tofu chunks into an airtight glass container or Ziploc bag and pour the marinade over the top, ensuring the tofu is fully submerged.
- Seal the container and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or overnight for maximum flavor.
- Optional: Sear the tofu in a non-stick pan with 2 tbsp of water for 10 minutes until edges are caramelized.
