Ingredients:

  • 1 lb extra-firm tofu, drained
  • 1 tbsp neutral oil
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Instructions:

  1. Slice the tofu block into 1-inch cubes and pat each side firmly with paper towels to remove surface moisture.
  2. Preheat the oven to 425°F (218°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together soy sauce, maple syrup, sesame oil, garlic powder, and ginger.
  4. Add the tofu cubes to the bowl and gently fold for 2-3 minutes until well coated.
  5. Sprinkle cornstarch, salt, and pepper over the marinated tofu and toss until the tofu looks chalky and the liquid is absorbed.
  6. Spread the cubes on the baking sheet in a single layer, ensuring they are not touching.
  7. Roast for 20-25 minutes, flipping the cubes with a spatula halfway through (around the 12-minute mark).
  8. Remove from the oven when the edges are mahogany-colored and the crust feels firm.
