Ingredients:
- 1 lb extra-firm tofu, drained
- 1 tbsp neutral oil
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
Instructions:
- Slice the tofu block into 1-inch cubes and pat each side firmly with paper towels to remove surface moisture.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (218°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together soy sauce, maple syrup, sesame oil, garlic powder, and ginger.
- Add the tofu cubes to the bowl and gently fold for 2-3 minutes until well coated.
- Sprinkle cornstarch, salt, and pepper over the marinated tofu and toss until the tofu looks chalky and the liquid is absorbed.
- Spread the cubes on the baking sheet in a single layer, ensuring they are not touching.
- Roast for 20-25 minutes, flipping the cubes with a spatula halfway through (around the 12-minute mark).
- Remove from the oven when the edges are mahogany-colored and the crust feels firm.
