Ingredients:
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) milk (dairy or non-dairy)
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon (1 ml) ground cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
- 4 slices bread (thick-cut, such as brioche, challah, or sourdough work best)
- 2 tablespoons (30 g) unsalted butter, for cooking
- Optional toppings: maple syrup, fresh berries, powdered sugar, whipped cream
Instructions:
- In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined and smooth.
- Dip each slice of bread into the custard mixture, ensuring both sides are thoroughly soaked. Allow the bread to soak for about 15-20 seconds per side. Don't over-soak, or the bread will be soggy!
- Melt the butter in a non-stick frying pan or griddle over medium heat.
- Place the soaked bread slices in the hot pan and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Flip carefully with a spatula.
- Serve immediately with your favourite toppings.
