Ingredients:

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) milk (dairy or non-dairy)
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1 ml) ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 4 slices bread (thick-cut, such as brioche, challah, or sourdough work best)
  • 2 tablespoons (30 g) unsalted butter, for cooking
  • Optional toppings: maple syrup, fresh berries, powdered sugar, whipped cream

Instructions:

  1. In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined and smooth.
  2. Dip each slice of bread into the custard mixture, ensuring both sides are thoroughly soaked. Allow the bread to soak for about 15-20 seconds per side. Don't over-soak, or the bread will be soggy!
  3. Melt the butter in a non-stick frying pan or griddle over medium heat.
  4. Place the soaked bread slices in the hot pan and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Flip carefully with a spatula.
  5. Serve immediately with your favourite toppings.
