Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened (227g)
  • 3-4 cups powdered sugar, sifted (360-480g)
  • 1/4 cup milk or heavy cream (60ml)
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract (5ml)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until light and fluffy.
  2. Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating on low speed until combined.
  3. Add the milk (or cream), vanilla extract, and salt.
  4. Increase the mixer speed to medium-high and beat for 2-3 minutes, or until the frosting is light and fluffy.
  5. If the frosting is too thick, add a little more milk, a tablespoon at a time. If it's too thin, add a little more powdered sugar.
  6. Use the frosting immediately, or store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. Bring to room temperature and re-whip before using.
