Ingredients:

  • 1 loaf Italian or French bread (12-16 inches)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup freshly chopped parsley
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (optional)
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice the loaf of bread in half lengthwise.
  2. In a small bowl, combine softened butter, minced garlic, parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  3. Evenly spread the garlic butter mixture over the cut sides of the bread.
  4. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese, mozzarella cheese, and red pepper flakes (if using).
  5. For Soft Garlic Bread: Place bread halves on a baking sheet (lined with parchment paper, if desired). Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the bread is heated through but still soft.
  6. For Crispy Garlic Bread: Place bread halves on a baking sheet (lined with parchment paper, if desired). Bake for 15-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and crispy and the cheese is melted and bubbly. Monitor closely to prevent burning.
  7. Remove from oven and let cool slightly before slicing into individual portions. Serve immediately.
