Ingredients:
- 6 medium apples (such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix), peeled, cored, and sliced (approximately 680g)
- 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar (Approximately 50g)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (5ml)
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (1ml)
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (Approximately 20g)
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice (Approximately 30ml)
- 1/4 cup water (Approximately 60ml)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (Approximately 120g)
- 1/2 cup rolled oats (not instant) (Approximately 45g)
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar (Approximately 100g)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (2.5ml)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt (1ml)
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cubed (Approximately 113g)
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Prepare the Apples: In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, flour, lemon juice, and water. Toss to coat evenly.
- Make the Crumb Topping: In a separate bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
- Cut in the Butter: Using a pastry blender or your fingers, cut the cold, cubed butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Assemble and Bake: Pour the apple mixture into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the apples.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender. If the topping is browning too quickly, tent with foil.
- Cool Slightly: Let cool slightly before serving.
