Ingredients:
- 2 oz (60 ml) Gin (high-quality London Dry)
- 2 oz (60 ml) Sweet Vermouth (Italian Rosso)
- 2 Dashes Fernet-Branca
- 1 large strip Fresh Orange peel (garnish)
- Sufficient Ice for mixing
Instructions:
- Chill the Glass: Fill the coupe or martini glass with ice and cold water, or place the glass in the freezer for at least 5 minutes. Prepare Garnish: Use a peeler to carve a generous strip of orange peel, ensuring minimal white pith.
- Combine Spirits: Add the measured 2 oz of gin and 2 oz of sweet vermouth directly into a cocktail mixing glass.
- Add the Bitter Element: Add exactly two dashes of Fernet-Branca. Fernet is potent; measure precisely.
- Stir: Fill the mixing glass three-quarters full with fresh, clean ice cubes. Using a bar spoon, stir the mixture slowly and consistently for approximately 30 to 45 seconds to thoroughly chill and achieve 20-25% dilution.
- Strain: Discard the chill water from the serving glass. Place a strainer over the mixing glass and strain the chilled Hanky Panky cocktail immediately into the prepared coupe or martini glass.
- Garnish: Take the strip of orange peel and twist it sharply over the drink to express the essential oils onto the surface. Run the peel around the rim of the glass before dropping it into the drink. Serve immediately.
