Ingredients:
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (or ground turkey)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup (240 ml) tomato sauce
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) ketchup
- 1 tbsp (15 ml) Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp (15 g) brown sugar
- 1 tsp (5 g) chili powder
- 1/2 tsp (2.5 g) smoked paprika
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 4 hamburger buns
- Optional toppings: sliced pickles, shredded cheese, chopped parsley
Instructions:
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula (about 5-7 minutes).
- Drain excess fat, then add the chopped onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic, cooking until softened (about 3-4 minutes).
- Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, chili powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Reduce heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened.
- While the mixture simmers, toast the hamburger buns if desired.
- Spoon the beef mixture generously onto the bottom half of each bun. Add any desired toppings, then cover with the top bun.
- Enjoy immediately with your choice of sides!
