Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (or ground turkey)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup (240 ml) tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp (30 ml) ketchup
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp (15 g) brown sugar
  • 1 tsp (5 g) chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp (2.5 g) smoked paprika
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Optional toppings: sliced pickles, shredded cheese, chopped parsley

Instructions:

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula (about 5-7 minutes).
  2. Drain excess fat, then add the chopped onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic, cooking until softened (about 3-4 minutes).
  3. Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, chili powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  4. Reduce heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened.
  5. While the mixture simmers, toast the hamburger buns if desired.
  6. Spoon the beef mixture generously onto the bottom half of each bun. Add any desired toppings, then cover with the top bun.
  7. Enjoy immediately with your choice of sides!
