Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (90g) popcorn kernels
  • 3 tablespoons (45 ml) vegetable oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon (3g) salt
  • 3 tablespoons (45g) unsalted butter, melted (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Place the pot over medium heat. Add the oil and three popcorn kernels.
  2. Cover the pot and wait for the three kernels to pop. This indicates the oil is hot enough.
  3. Remove the pot from the heat and add the remaining popcorn kernels. Cover and wait 30 seconds.
  4. Return the pot to medium heat. Gently shake the pot occasionally to prevent sticking and ensure even popping.
  5. As the popcorn begins to pop, listen for the frequency of the pops to slow down.
  6. Once the popping slows to about 2-3 seconds between pops, remove the pot from the heat. Leave the lid on for another minute.
  7. Pour the popcorn into a large bowl. Drizzle with melted butter (if using) and sprinkle with salt. Toss to coat evenly. Serve immediately.
