Ingredients:

  • Ears of corn, in their husks (1 per person)
  • Optional: Butter, for serving
  • Optional: Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Remove the outer layer of husk if desired, but leave the innermost layer intact. Trim the silk sticking out of the top of the ear if necessary. Leaving the husk on helps steam the corn. (Alternatively, if you prefer, remove the entire husk and silk and wrap the corn in damp paper towels.)
  2. Place the corn (still in its innermost husk if using) directly in the microwave, or on a microwave-safe plate.
  3. Microwave on high. Cook for 3-4 minutes for 1 ear of corn, add 1-2 minutes for each additional ear. Exact cook time depends on your microwave's power, so check for doneness after 3 minutes for the first ear.
  4. Carefully remove the corn from the microwave using oven mitts or tongs (it will be hot!). To check for doneness, carefully peel back a portion of the husk (watch out for steam!). The kernels should be plump and tender. If not done, microwave for another minute or two.
  5. Let the corn cool slightly. Carefully remove the husk and silk. Butter, salt, and pepper to taste and enjoy!
