Ingredients:
- 2 (5-ounce) cans tuna in water, drained well (140g each)
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise (60 ml), full-fat for best flavour
- 2 tablespoons finely chopped celery (30 ml)
- 1 tablespoon finely chopped red onion (15 ml)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (15 ml), fresh is best
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (1 ml), freshly ground
- Pinch of salt (to taste)
- 4 slices of your favourite bread
- Lettuce leaves (optional)
- Sliced tomato (optional)
Instructions:
- Open the tuna cans and drain the water thoroughly. Press the tuna against the colander to extract excess water.
- In a mixing bowl, add the drained tuna, mayonnaise, celery, red onion, lemon juice, salt, and pepper.
- Gently mix all ingredients until well combined. Don't overmix; you want to retain some texture.
- Give it a taste! Add more salt, pepper, or lemon juice as needed to achieve your desired flavour profile.
- Spread the tuna salad evenly onto two slices of bread. Top with lettuce and tomato, if desired. Cover with the remaining slices of bread.
- Cut the sandwiches in half and serve immediately.
