Ingredients:

  • 36 Oreo Biscuits (one standard package, approximately 400g / 14.3 oz)
  • 225g (8 oz) full-fat block-style cream cheese, softened
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) vanilla extract
  • 340g (12 oz) good quality milk melting chocolate (or chocolate chips)
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) vegetable shortening or refined coconut oil (optional)
  • 50g (2 oz) white chocolate (optional, for drizzling)

Instructions:

  1. Process the Biscuits: Place the entire package of Oreos (cookies and cream) into the food processor. Pulse until finely crushed into uniform crumbs. Reserve 2 tablespoons of the crumbs for garnish later, and transfer the rest to a large mixing bowl.
  2. Combine Ingredients: Add the softened cream cheese and vanilla extract to the bowl with the Oreo crumbs. Mix Thoroughly: Stir and mash the mixture with a spatula until completely combined and a thick, uniform dough forms. Ensure no streaks of cream cheese remain.
  3. Chill (1): Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Scoop the mixture using a small scoop (or roll by hand) into uniform balls, approximately 1 inch (2.5 cm) in diameter. Place them onto the prepared sheet. Refrigerate the balls for a minimum of 30 minutes, or until very firm. This step is crucial for easy dipping.
  4. Melt Chocolate Coating: Place the milk chocolate (and optional shortening/coconut oil) in a microwave-safe bowl or use a double boiler. Heat gently, stirring frequently, until smooth and completely melted. Avoid overheating.
  5. Dip the Truffles: Using a fork or dipping tool, quickly dip one cold truffle ball into the melted chocolate, ensuring it is completely coated. Tap the fork gently on the side of the bowl to remove excess chocolate. Transfer and Set: Place the coated truffle back onto the parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Optional Decoration and Chill (2): While the chocolate is still wet, sprinkle the reserved Oreo crumbs over the balls, or melt the white chocolate and drizzle it decoratively over the tops. Return the finished truffles to the refrigerator for at least 1 hour to allow the chocolate coating to fully set and harden before serving.
