  • 1 ½ lbs beef chuck, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
  • Cooked rice or mashed potatoes for serving
  • Fresh parsley, chopped for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the ingredients: Dice the onion and mince the garlic. Cut the beef into 1-inch cubes.
  2. Sauté the beef: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the beef cubes on all sides (approx. 5 minutes).
  3. Add aromatics: Add diced onions and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté until onions become translucent (approx. 3-4 minutes).
  4. Create the sauce: Stir in beef broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, paprika, and pepper. Bring to a gentle simmer.
  5. No peek cooking: Cover tightly with a lid. Reduce heat to low and let simmer without peeking for 1 hour.
  6. Thicken sauce (optional): If desired, mix cornstarch with a little water to create a slurry. Stir into the sauce during the last 5-10 minutes and cook until thickened.
  7. Serve: Serve hot over cooked rice or mashed potatoes, garnished with fresh parsley.
