Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (475 ml) whole milk
  • 2 ounces (55g) bittersweet chocolate, chopped (at least 70% cacao is ideal)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (25g)
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest (from about 1/2 medium orange), finely grated
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional toppings: Whipped cream, orange zest curls, chocolate shavings

Instructions:

  1. In a medium saucepan, gently heat the milk over medium-low heat until it's steaming, but not boiling. Be careful not to scald the milk.
  2. Reduce the heat to low. Add the chopped chocolate and sugar to the warm milk.
  3. Whisk constantly until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
  4. Stir in the orange zest, cinnamon, and salt. Continue to whisk for another minute to allow the flavors to meld.
  5. Pour the Orange Zest Hot Chocolate into two mugs. Top with whipped cream, orange zest curls, and chocolate shavings, if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy!
