Ingredients:
- 2 cups (475 ml) whole milk
- 2 ounces (55g) bittersweet chocolate, chopped (at least 70% cacao is ideal)
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (25g)
- 1 teaspoon orange zest (from about 1/2 medium orange), finely grated
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
- Optional toppings: Whipped cream, orange zest curls, chocolate shavings
Instructions:
- In a medium saucepan, gently heat the milk over medium-low heat until it's steaming, but not boiling. Be careful not to scald the milk.
- Reduce the heat to low. Add the chopped chocolate and sugar to the warm milk.
- Whisk constantly until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
- Stir in the orange zest, cinnamon, and salt. Continue to whisk for another minute to allow the flavors to meld.
- Pour the Orange Zest Hot Chocolate into two mugs. Top with whipped cream, orange zest curls, and chocolate shavings, if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy!
