Ingredients:

  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1 cup fresh orange juice
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, combine chicken pieces, milk, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Let rest for 30 minutes.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together flour and egg until smooth.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Dredge marinated chicken in the flour mixture, shaking off excess. Fry in batches until golden brown and cooked through (about 5-7 minutes). Remove and drain on paper towels.
  4. In a saucepan, combine orange juice, zest, soy sauce, brown sugar, and rice vinegar. Bring to a simmer.
  5. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch and water. Add to the sauce, whisking until thickened (about 3-5 minutes). Stir in crushed red pepper flakes if desired.
  6. Add the fried chicken to the sauce, tossing to coat evenly.
  7. Transfer to a serving platter and garnish with additional orange zest or sesame seeds if desired.
