Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (200g) long-grain rice (such as basmati or jasmine), rinsed well
  • 2 cups (475ml) water
  • 1/2 teaspoon (3g) salt (optional)
  • 1 tbsp (14g) unsalted butter or vegetable oil (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Place the rice in a fine-mesh sieve. Rinse under cold running water until the water runs clear.
  2. Add the rinsed rice, water, salt (if using), and butter/oil (if using) to the saucepan.
  3. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil over medium-high heat.
  4. Once boiling, immediately reduce the heat to the lowest possible setting, cover the saucepan tightly with the lid, and simmer for 18-20 minutes.
  5. Remove the saucepan from the heat (still covered) and let it rest for 10 minutes.
  6. Gently fluff the rice with a fork or wooden spoon before serving.
