Ingredients:
- 2 (6-ounce) ahi tuna steaks (170 grams each)
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce (30 ml)
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil (15 ml)
- 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger (5 grams)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Chopped scallions, for serving
- Toasted sesame seeds, for sprinkling
Instructions:
- In a bowl, combine soy sauce, sesame oil, and grated ginger. Add tuna steaks and let marinate for 10 minutes.
- Place a heavy skillet over high heat for about 5 minutes until very hot. Add a small amount of oil to coat the skillet.
- Remove tuna from marinade, season lightly with salt and pepper, and add the tuna steaks to the hot skillet. Sear the first side for 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
- Carefully turn and sear the other side for an additional 2-3 minutes. Aim for a rare to medium-rare finish.
- Remove tuna from skillet and let it rest for a couple of minutes. Slice thinly against the grain, garnish with scallions and sesame seeds, and serve.
