Ingredients:

  • 2 (6-ounce) ahi tuna steaks (170 grams each)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (30 ml)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil (15 ml)
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger (5 grams)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Chopped scallions, for serving
  • Toasted sesame seeds, for sprinkling

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, sesame oil, and grated ginger. Add tuna steaks and let marinate for 10 minutes.
  2. Place a heavy skillet over high heat for about 5 minutes until very hot. Add a small amount of oil to coat the skillet.
  3. Remove tuna from marinade, season lightly with salt and pepper, and add the tuna steaks to the hot skillet. Sear the first side for 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
  4. Carefully turn and sear the other side for an additional 2-3 minutes. Aim for a rare to medium-rare finish.
  5. Remove tuna from skillet and let it rest for a couple of minutes. Slice thinly against the grain, garnish with scallions and sesame seeds, and serve.
