Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (120g) raw, shelled walnuts (halves or pieces)
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon (5ml) olive oil or melted butter
  • Optional: Pinch of sea salt
  • Optional: 1/4 teaspoon (1g) of your favorite spice blend

Instructions:

  1. Spread walnuts in a single layer on a baking sheet or in a skillet. Remove any visible shell fragments or debris.
  2. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). If using, toss walnuts with olive oil/butter and salt (and spice if you want to). Spread in a single layer on the baking sheet. Toast for 5-10 minutes, checking frequently and stirring halfway through, until fragrant and golden brown.
  3. Heat skillet over medium heat. If using, add olive oil/butter to the pan. Add walnuts and stir constantly for 3-7 minutes, until fragrant and golden brown. Watch carefully as they can burn quickly.
  4. Immediately transfer the toasted walnuts to a cool surface to stop the cooking process. Allow to cool completely before using or storing. Enjoy as a snack or ingredient.
