Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14 oz / 400 g) crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Fresh basil leaves (for garnish)
Instructions:
- Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add chopped onion, cook until translucent (about 3-4 minutes). Stir in minced garlic, sauté for an additional 1 minute, until fragrant.
- Pour in crushed tomatoes, stirring to combine with onion and garlic. Add dried basil and sugar, season with salt and pepper.
- Bring to a gentle simmer, reduce heat, and let cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Remove from heat and gradually stir in heavy cream. Return to low heat to simmer for another 2-3 minutes.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
- Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving.
