Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14 oz / 400 g) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh basil leaves (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add chopped onion, cook until translucent (about 3-4 minutes). Stir in minced garlic, sauté for an additional 1 minute, until fragrant.
  2. Pour in crushed tomatoes, stirring to combine with onion and garlic. Add dried basil and sugar, season with salt and pepper.
  3. Bring to a gentle simmer, reduce heat, and let cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Remove from heat and gradually stir in heavy cream. Return to low heat to simmer for another 2-3 minutes.
  5. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
  6. Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving.
