Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (450g) fresh asparagus, trimmed
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Juice of half a lemon (about 1 tablespoon or 15ml)
  • Optional: Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving (about 2 tablespoons or 15g)

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the asparagus under cool water and trim off the woody ends, about 1-2 inches from the bottom.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat, add olive oil, and warm for a minute.
  3. Add the asparagus to the pan in a single layer and sauté for 3-5 minutes, turning occasionally, until vibrant green and tender.
  4. Add minced garlic, salt, and pepper; cook for another minute until garlic is fragrant (watch to avoid burning!).
  5. Squeeze lemon juice over the asparagus and toss to combine, cooking for an additional minute to incorporate flavors.
  6. Transfer to a serving platter and sprinkle with grated Parmesan before serving if desired.
