Ingredients:
- 2 cups (475 ml) Ginger Ale (not diet)
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) Grenadine Syrup
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) Vodka (or Gin, optional)
- Juice of 1/2 Lemon (about 1 tablespoon/15 ml)
- 8 Maraschino Cherries, plus extra for garnish
Instructions:
- In a large measuring cup or bowl, combine the ginger ale, grenadine, vodka (if using), and lemon juice. Stir well to combine.
- Pour the mixture into the shallow baking dish. Evenly space the 8 maraschino cherries throughout the mixture.
- Place the dish in the freezer.
- After 30-45 minutes, use a fork to scrape the frozen edges towards the center. Break up any large ice chunks. This creates the signature granita texture.
- Return to the freezer and repeat the scraping process every 30-45 minutes for 3-4 hours, or until the entire mixture is frozen into small, icy crystals.
- Scoop the granita into glasses and garnish with additional maraschino cherries.
