Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (475 ml) Ginger Ale (not diet)
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) Grenadine Syrup
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) Vodka (or Gin, optional)
  • Juice of 1/2 Lemon (about 1 tablespoon/15 ml)
  • 8 Maraschino Cherries, plus extra for garnish

Instructions:

  1. In a large measuring cup or bowl, combine the ginger ale, grenadine, vodka (if using), and lemon juice. Stir well to combine.
  2. Pour the mixture into the shallow baking dish. Evenly space the 8 maraschino cherries throughout the mixture.
  3. Place the dish in the freezer.
  4. After 30-45 minutes, use a fork to scrape the frozen edges towards the center. Break up any large ice chunks. This creates the signature granita texture.
  5. Return to the freezer and repeat the scraping process every 30-45 minutes for 3-4 hours, or until the entire mixture is frozen into small, icy crystals.
  6. Scoop the granita into glasses and garnish with additional maraschino cherries.
