Ingredients:
- 6 medium apples (such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Gala), peeled, cored, and sliced (about 6 cups) (900g)
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (25g)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (50g)
- 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar (50g)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (5ml)
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (1ml)
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice (30ml)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces (30g)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (125g)
- 1 cup rolled oats (not instant) (85g)
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar (100g)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (2ml)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt (1.5g)
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes (113g)
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Butter or spray a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Prepare the Apple Filling: In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss to coat evenly. Dot with butter pieces.
- Prepare the Crisp Topping: In a small bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
- Cut in the Butter: Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Alternatively, use your fingers!
- Assemble the Crisp: Pour the apple filling into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the crisp topping evenly over the apples.
- Bake: Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbly.
- Cool: Let cool slightly before serving.
