Ingredients:
- 1 pound (450g) fresh broccoli florets, cut into even pieces
- 2-3 tablespoons (30-45ml) water
- Pinch of salt
- Optional: Freshly ground black pepper
- Optional: Lemon juice
- Optional: Butter or olive oil for serving
Instructions:
- Wash broccoli thoroughly and cut into even-sized florets. This ensures even cooking.
- Place broccoli florets in a microwave-safe bowl. Add water to the bowl.
- Cover the bowl with a lid (or microwave-safe plate and plastic wrap, creating a vent for steam to escape). Microwave on high power for 3-5 minutes.
- Carefully remove the bowl from the microwave (it will be hot!). Pierce a floret with a fork to check for tenderness. It should be tender-crisp. If it needs more time, microwave in 30-second increments until done.
- Carefully drain any remaining water from the bowl. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Add a squeeze of lemon juice or a pat of butter or drizzle of olive oil if desired. Serve immediately.
