Ingredients:
- 4 cups (950ml) Unfiltered Apple Cider
- 2 Cinnamon Sticks (approx. 3 inches/7.5cm)
- 4 Whole Cloves
- 2 Star Anise
- 1/4 teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
- 2 ounces (60 ml) Bourbon Whiskey
- 1/2 ounce (15 ml) Spiced Apple Cider
- 1/4 ounce (7.5 ml) Maple Syrup
- 2 Dashes Angostura Bitters
- Orange Peel, for garnish
- Cinnamon Stick, for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- Combine cider and spices in a saucepan. Gently simmer over low heat for 15 minutes. Remove from heat and let steep for at least 2 hours, or up to overnight, in the refrigerator. Strain before using. Key Visual Cue: The cider should have a rich, aromatic scent.
- In an Old Fashioned glass, gently muddle the maple syrup and Angostura bitters. Don't over-muddle! We're aiming for subtle infusion, not a mash.
- Add the bourbon and spiced apple cider to the glass.
- Fill the glass with ice.
- Gently stir to combine. If using a mixing glass, stir with ice then strain into an ice-filled old fashioned glass.
- Express the oils from the orange peel over the glass, then use it as a garnish. Add a cinnamon stick for an extra touch of fall.
