Ingredients:
- 2 medium apples, cored and chopped
- 1 cup fresh cranberries
- 2 oranges, one sliced, one juiced
- 4 cinnamon sticks
- 2 star anise
- 8 whole cloves
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 (750ml) bottle dry red wine
- 1 cup apple cider
- 1/2 cup brandy
- 1/2 cup orange liqueur
- Apple slices (for garnish)
- Orange slices (for garnish)
- Cinnamon sticks (for garnish)
- Fresh cranberries (for garnish)
- Sparkling water or ginger ale (for topping up)
Instructions:
- In a large pitcher, combine chopped apples, cranberries, orange slices, orange juice, cinnamon sticks, star anise, cloves, and sugar. Gently muddle to release the fruit's juices.
- Pour in the red wine, apple cider, brandy, and orange liqueur. Stir well to combine.
- Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2-4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
- Before serving, give the sangria a good stir. Add ice to glasses. Pour the sangria over ice, adding fruit from the pitcher to each glass.
- If desired, top each glass with a splash of sparkling water or ginger ale for some fizz. Garnish with fresh apple slices, orange slices, cinnamon sticks, and cranberries, if desired.
