Ingredients:

  • 2 medium apples, cored and chopped
  • 1 cup fresh cranberries
  • 2 oranges, one sliced, one juiced
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 star anise
  • 8 whole cloves
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 (750ml) bottle dry red wine
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1/2 cup brandy
  • 1/2 cup orange liqueur
  • Apple slices (for garnish)
  • Orange slices (for garnish)
  • Cinnamon sticks (for garnish)
  • Fresh cranberries (for garnish)
  • Sparkling water or ginger ale (for topping up)

Instructions:

  1. In a large pitcher, combine chopped apples, cranberries, orange slices, orange juice, cinnamon sticks, star anise, cloves, and sugar. Gently muddle to release the fruit's juices.
  2. Pour in the red wine, apple cider, brandy, and orange liqueur. Stir well to combine.
  3. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2-4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
  4. Before serving, give the sangria a good stir. Add ice to glasses. Pour the sangria over ice, adding fruit from the pitcher to each glass.
  5. If desired, top each glass with a splash of sparkling water or ginger ale for some fizz. Garnish with fresh apple slices, orange slices, cinnamon sticks, and cranberries, if desired.
