Ingredients:

  • 1 package (14 oz / 400g) silken tofu
  • 1 tsp (5ml) sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp (30ml) light soy sauce
  • 1 tsp (5ml) sugar
  • 1 tsp (5ml) rice vinegar
  • 1 clove (3g) garlic, finely minced
  • 1/2 tsp (2.5ml) grated fresh ginger
  • 1 stalk (5g) green onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp (15ml) neutral oil
  • 1 tsp (5ml) toasted sesame seeds

Instructions:

  1. Carefully drain the excess water from the silken tofu package and gently slide the block onto a lightly greased heat-proof plate.
  2. Slice the tofu into 1-inch (2.5cm) thick slabs or leave it as one solid block.
  3. Place the plate inside a steamer basket over boiling water, cover with a tight-fitting lid, and steam for 5 to 8 minutes until heated through.
  4. While the tofu steams, whisk together the light soy sauce, sugar, rice vinegar, minced garlic, and grated ginger in a small bowl until the sugar is dissolved.
  5. Drizzle the prepared soy glaze over the steamed tofu.
  6. Scatter sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds over the top.
  7. Heat neutral oil in a small skillet until sizzling, then carefully pour the hot oil over the aromatics to release their fragrance.
