Ingredients:
- 1 block (14 oz / 400g) extra-firm tofu, drained and patted dry
- 2 tbsp (30ml) avocado oil
- 3 tbsp (24g) cornstarch
- 1 tsp (5g) garlic powder
- 1 tsp (5g) onion powder
- 1/2 tsp (3g) smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp (3g) salt
- 1/4 tsp (1g) black pepper
Instructions:
- Cut the tofu into 3/4-inch (2cm) cubes or strips.
- Pat each tofu piece firmly with paper towels to remove surface water.
- Place tofu in a bowl and drizzle with avocado oil; toss gently until every side is glistening.
- Sprinkle cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper over the tofu; toss until coated in a thin, matte paste.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread tofu in a single layer, ensuring pieces do not touch.
- Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 12–15 minutes until the bottoms are golden brown.
- Carefully flip each piece using a spatula.
- Bake for another 10–12 minutes until edges are mahogany-colored and firm.
- Let the tofu rest on the pan for 2–3 minutes to allow the crust to set.
