Ingredients:

  • 1 block (14 oz / 400g) extra-firm tofu, drained and patted dry
  • 2 tbsp (30ml) avocado oil
  • 3 tbsp (24g) cornstarch
  • 1 tsp (5g) garlic powder
  • 1 tsp (5g) onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp (3g) smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp (3g) salt
  • 1/4 tsp (1g) black pepper

Instructions:

  1. Cut the tofu into 3/4-inch (2cm) cubes or strips.
  2. Pat each tofu piece firmly with paper towels to remove surface water.
  3. Place tofu in a bowl and drizzle with avocado oil; toss gently until every side is glistening.
  4. Sprinkle cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper over the tofu; toss until coated in a thin, matte paste.
  5. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread tofu in a single layer, ensuring pieces do not touch.
  6. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 12–15 minutes until the bottoms are golden brown.
  7. Carefully flip each piece using a spatula.
  8. Bake for another 10–12 minutes until edges are mahogany-colored and firm.
  9. Let the tofu rest on the pan for 2–3 minutes to allow the crust to set.
