- 1 tablespoon (15 ml) fresh lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon (15 ml) capers, drained and chopped
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) Dijon mustard
- 1/4 teaspoon (1.25 ml) freshly ground black pepper
- Pinch of sugar (optional)
Instructions:
- In a medium mixing bowl, add mayonnaise, dill pickle relish, chopped red onion, lemon juice, capers, Dijon mustard, black pepper, and sugar (if using).
- Gently whisk or stir all ingredients together until thoroughly combined. Avoid overmixing.
- Taste the tartar sauce and adjust seasonings as needed. Add more lemon juice for tanginess, pepper for a kick, or a pinch of sugar to balance the flavors.
- For best flavor, cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. However, it's perfectly fine to serve immediately.
- Serve chilled or at room temperature alongside your favorite seafood, fried foods, or other dishes.
