Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (454g) ground beef (80/20 blend recommended)
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped (approx. 1 cup / 150g)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (approx. 2 teaspoons / 6g)
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5ml) black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) dried Italian seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) all-purpose flour
  • 1 (10.75 oz/ 305g) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 (14.5 oz/ 411g) can cut green beans, drained
  • 1 (14.5 oz/ 411g) can sweet corn, drained
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) milk or half-and-half
  • 1/2 cup (60g) shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
  • 1 (32 oz/ 907g) package frozen tater tots

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Brown ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Add onion and garlic to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Sprinkle with flour and stir to coat. Cook for 1 minute.
  5. In a large bowl, combine the browned beef mixture, cream of mushroom soup, green beans, corn, and milk (and cheddar cheese, if using).
  6. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  7. Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer over the top of the mixture.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy and the filling is bubbly.
  9. Let cool for a few minutes before serving this tater tot hotdish.
