Ingredients:

  • 4 cups (950ml) cubed fresh watermelon, seeds removed
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) fresh lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) agave nectar or simple syrup
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) water (if needed)
  • 6 ounces (180ml) silver (blanco) tequila
  • 3 ounces (90ml) Cointreau or other orange liqueur
  • Lime wedges, for garnish
  • Coarse salt or sugar, for rimming glasses (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Combine watermelon, lime juice, and agave nectar in a blender.
  2. Blend until completely smooth. Add water if needed to achieve desired consistency.
  3. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve for an even smoother texture (optional).
  4. Refrigerate the agua fresca for at least 30 minutes for optimal chill (optional).
  5. If desired, rim margarita glasses with salt or sugar.
  6. In a cocktail shaker (or directly in glasses), combine tequila, Cointreau, and chilled watermelon agua fresca.
  7. If using a cocktail shaker, add ice and shake vigorously until well-chilled. Otherwise, stir well in your glass.
  8. Strain (if shaken) or pour directly into prepared glasses filled with ice.
  9. Garnish with lime wedges. Serve immediately.
