Ingredients:
- 1 (15-ounce / 425g) can black beans, rinsed and drained
- 1/4 cup (60ml) water
- 1/4 cup (60ml) fresh lime juice (from about 2 limes)
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) olive oil
- 1/4 cup (chopped) cilantro leaves and stems (optional)
- 1-2 cloves garlic, minced (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon chili powder (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
Instructions:
- Place all ingredients into a food processor or blender.
- Process until the mixture is completely smooth and creamy. Scrape down the sides as needed. Add a tablespoon of water at a time if needed to reach desired consistency.
- Taste the spread and adjust seasonings as needed. Add more lime juice for brightness, cumin for smokiness, chili powder for heat, or salt to taste.
- For best flavor, transfer the black bean spread to a container and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. This allows the flavors to meld.
- Serve chilled or at room temperature with your favorite dippers.
