Ingredients:

  • 12 ounces (340g) fresh cranberries, rinsed and picked over
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 1 cup (240ml) water
  • Zest of 1 medium orange
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • Orange slices or fresh mint leaves (for garnish, optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the water and sugar over medium heat. Stir until the sugar has dissolved.
  2. Stir in the fresh cranberries and bring the mixture to a gentle boil.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and let the cranberries simmer for about 10 minutes, or until they start to burst.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the orange zest and ground cinnamon (if using).
  5. Allow the sauce to cool. As it cools, it will thicken.
  6. You can serve it warm, or transfer to a bowl and refrigerate for at least an hour before serving.
