Ingredients:
- 2 large Russet potatoes (about 1 pound/450g total), peeled and cut into ½-inch thick fries
- 2 tablespoons olive oil (or avocado oil)
- 1 teaspoon sea salt (or kosher salt), plus more to taste
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon paprika
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Instructions:
- Peel and cut the potatoes into evenly sized fries. Aim for ½-inch thickness for best results.
- Place the cut fries in a large bowl filled with cold water and soak for at least 30 minutes (or up to 2 hours). This removes excess starch and helps them crisp up.
- Drain the fries well and pat them completely dry with paper towels. This is crucial for crispiness!
- In a large bowl, toss the dried fries with olive oil, salt, garlic powder, paprika, and black pepper. Ensure they are evenly coated.
- Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
- Place the fries in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Don't overcrowd! You may need to cook in batches.
- Air fry for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy. Watch them carefully during the last few minutes to prevent burning.
- Remove the air fryer french fries from the air fryer and season with additional salt to taste (optional). Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces.
