Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 3/4 cup (150g) packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated white sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 tsp (5ml) pure vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp (3g) baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp (3g) salt
  • 1 cup (170g) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease an 8-inch or 10-inch cast iron skillet with butter or non-stick oil.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, and white sugar until the mixture resembles wet sand and no large lumps remain.
  3. Stir in the egg and vanilla extract until the batter becomes glossy and smooth.
  4. Sift in the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Use a spatula to fold the dry ingredients into the wet batter, stopping as soon as no white streaks of flour are visible.
  6. Gently fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips.
  7. Press the dough evenly into the prepared cast iron skillet using a spatula.
  8. Bake for 20 minutes, or until the edges are deep mahogany-brown and pulling away from the sides, while the center still has a slight jiggle.
