Ingredients:

  • 6 medium apples (such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Braeburn), peeled, cored, and sliced (about 700g or 1.5 lbs)
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (5ml)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (1.25ml)
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup (100g) packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup (50g) rolled oats (not instant)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (2.5ml)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (1.25ml)
  • 1/2 cup (113g) cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes

Instructions:

  1. Peel, core, and slice the apples.
  2. Combine apple slices, granulated sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour in a large bowl. Toss to coat evenly.
  3. Transfer the apple mixture to the baking dish.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, oats, cinnamon, and salt.
  5. Cut the cold butter into the dry ingredients using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. Sprinkle the crisp topping evenly over the apple filling.
  7. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbly.
