Ingredients:
- 3 Tbsp Chili Powder
- 2 Tbsp Ground Cumin
- 1 Tbsp Dried Oregano (Mexican preferred)
- 1 tsp Smoked Paprika
- 1 tsp Onion Powder
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1/2 tsp Ground Coriander
- 1 tsp Fine Sea Salt (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 tsp Freshly Ground Black Pepper
- 1/4 tsp Cayenne Pepper (optional)
Instructions:
- Measure all dry ingredients listed (Chili Powder, Cumin, Oregano, Paprika, Onion Powder, Garlic Powder, Coriander, Salt, Pepper, and Cayenne) precisely using measuring spoons and place them into a small mixing bowl.
- Use a whisk or fork to vigorously combine all the spices for at least 30 seconds. Ensure the mixture is completely uniform in colour and texture, eliminating any clumps.
- Perform a taste test. Take a very small pinch of the dry mixture, rub it between your fingers, and taste to check the salt and heat balance. Adjust salt or cayenne pepper as necessary.
- Transfer the finished Taco Seasoning blend immediately to a clean, dry, airtight storage container, such as a small jar.
- When using the seasoning for 1 pound (450g) of protein, mix the entire batch of seasoning with 1/2 cup (120ml) of water or broth, and simmer until the liquid evaporates, allowing the spices to 'bloom'.
