Ingredients:

  • 3 Tbsp Chili Powder
  • 2 Tbsp Ground Cumin
  • 1 Tbsp Dried Oregano (Mexican preferred)
  • 1 tsp Smoked Paprika
  • 1 tsp Onion Powder
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Ground Coriander
  • 1 tsp Fine Sea Salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp Freshly Ground Black Pepper
  • 1/4 tsp Cayenne Pepper (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Measure all dry ingredients listed (Chili Powder, Cumin, Oregano, Paprika, Onion Powder, Garlic Powder, Coriander, Salt, Pepper, and Cayenne) precisely using measuring spoons and place them into a small mixing bowl.
  2. Use a whisk or fork to vigorously combine all the spices for at least 30 seconds. Ensure the mixture is completely uniform in colour and texture, eliminating any clumps.
  3. Perform a taste test. Take a very small pinch of the dry mixture, rub it between your fingers, and taste to check the salt and heat balance. Adjust salt or cayenne pepper as necessary.
  4. Transfer the finished Taco Seasoning blend immediately to a clean, dry, airtight storage container, such as a small jar.
  5. When using the seasoning for 1 pound (450g) of protein, mix the entire batch of seasoning with 1/2 cup (120ml) of water or broth, and simmer until the liquid evaporates, allowing the spices to 'bloom'.
