Ingredients:
- 1 block (14 oz / 400g) extra-firm tofu, drained
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
Instructions:
- Wrap the tofu block in several layers of paper towels. Place a heavy object, like a cast iron skillet, on top for 15–30 minutes. Note: This removes the water that blocks flavor.
- Slice the pressed tofu into 1 inch cubes.
- Whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, maple syrup, rice vinegar, garlic powder, smoked paprika, ground ginger, and black pepper in a bowl.
- Gently toss the tofu cubes in the marinade. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes until the marinade smells toasted and pungent.
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Spread the Marinated Tofu Cubes in a single layer. Note: Ensure they aren't touching to avoid steaming.
- Bake for 10 minutes.
- Flip the cubes over using a spatula.
- Bake for another 10 minutes until the edges are golden brown and the exterior feels firm.
