Ingredients:

  • 2 large fresh oranges (about 400g)
  • 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) water
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5g) vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1g) ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. Zest the oranges to gather about 1 tablespoon of zest and juice the oranges, aiming for approximately 1/2 cup of fresh juice.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the orange zest, orange juice, sugar, water, lemon juice, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt.
  3. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat, then reduce heat and let simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.
  4. The sauce should lightly coat the back of a spoon. Remove from heat to cool slightly.
  5. Use immediately as a drizzle or refrigerate in an airtight container for up to one week.
