Ingredients:
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup whole milk
- ¼ cup heavy cream (Optional)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- Pinch of salt
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 8 slices brioche or challah bread, about 1-inch thick
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, for cooking
- Optional: powdered sugar, maple syrup, fresh berries, whipped cream, for serving
Instructions:
- In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, cream (if using), vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and sugar until well combined.
- Dip each slice of bread into the custard mixture, making sure to soak both sides. Don't oversaturate! Let the excess drip off.
- Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet or griddle over medium heat.
- Place the soaked bread slices in the hot skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Repeat with the remaining bread and butter. Serve immediately with your favorite toppings.
